Global Warming in the UAE

There is a steep rise in temperature in the UAE this year. There was a lot of precipitation this year (2007) compared to previous years. A report released Aug. 3, 2006 by the Emirates News Agency highlights the dangers caused by global warming to many low-lying Middle Eastern countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The two most severe problems are desertification and dangerously high sea levels, which could rise by as much as 2.89 feet in this century. According to Sheikh Hamdan Nahyan, deputy chairman of the UAE's Environmental Research and Wildlife Development Agency, "This can flood not only coastal areas of the United Arab Emirates, but also much of the heavily populated Nile Delta in Egypt.
